Plot
The real Dolours Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea
During that period, Rea appeared in the film for which he is arguably best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game.
I highly recommend reading the book for additional context/information, but the series does a fantastic job of covering the material
In that film, Rea plays Fergus, an extremely reluctant and ambivalent member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), the same organization Price was involved with for many years.
Really well acted throughout the multiple eras of the main characters
The biggest themes for me are: -in war, everyone thinks they’re on the right side -how far will you go for a cause you believe in, and what happens when that belief is tested or faded -the sacrificial pawns of war who carry the most risk are usually easily discarded in the end -the broader “code” of silence within communities sometimes goes too far -the spoils of war tend to go to bureaucrats, not soldiers Overall, an incredibly well-made miniseries.
