Plot
Rookie detective Park Sun Woo and Seo Do-Cheol, a veteran of the Violent Crimes Investigation Department team, chase after a serial killer who shakes their world.. Ryoo Seung-wan’s follow-up to his 2015 action comedy Veteran is a high-octane crime thriller that reunites him with Hwang Jung-min and an all-star supporting cast to expectedly satisfying effect. The film focuses on a team of old-school police officers who, more often than not, use violent techniques during their work.
But they achieve results and their superiors trust them
Hwang reprises his role as Do-cheol, arguably the most skilled of the group. He’s very similar to Ma Dong-seok’s character from The Roundup, just a simple guy who knows his job and has his own ways of doing it, but now he’s not afraid to have a little fun and then. The team’s abilities are put to the test when a serial killer comes out in public and, annoyingly, is constantly being called out by some annoying live streamers.
Ryoo once again directs the film with a lot of energy and stylistic flair, definitely stepping up his game after the mediocre Smugglers
It seems like that he’s at his safest when directing strong action thrillers like this one, peppering the plot with humor but not averse to darkening the tone if necessary. And so it is here; I, the Executioner returns to Unjust in the way it questions morality and tests the sense of judgment of a desperate cop. The plot poses an intriguing examination of vigilantism and how it can be seen as righteous in the eyes of the public, but it is believed that the viewer knows better than that.

To offset all the killing, the aforementioned instances of welcome humor to brighten the mood, and they fit in well. Also, much like The Roundup series, there are plenty of excellent chases and instinctive action scenes, culminating in a climactic sequence of fist-pumping satisfaction that feels well-earned. Recommended for fans of crime thrillers.
